Importing 4K Videos from iPhone - Adobe Premiere Elements 2019

I'm trying to edit 4K videos shot with my iPhone and I keep getting the error, "This type of file is not supported, or the required codec is not installed." Doesn't this software support 4K videos? If that isn't the reason, is it because of the file type being .mov? I tried uninstalling and re-installing Quick Time for the codec to be recognized, I've tried converting the videos to .mp4 and .mkv with Handbrake and I still get the error message. Is there a way to get the right codec(s) for this to work?

Then do it and use Handbrake to convert from Apple's H.265 to the more universal H.264.  Picture quality does not change, but the file size is larger.  If you have to edit HEVC/H.265 directly, your only other choice is to get different editing software.  The Windows version of Premiere Elements 2019 can't be made to edit H.265 footage.

    For any Mac users reading this, importing an iPhone video to a Mac uses the Apple Photos app.

    1. Open Photos on the Mac

    2. Be sure the iPhone is on and unlocked

    3. From Photos choose iPhone -> Import New Photos (button upper right)

    4. The New or Selected photos from the iPhone will appear in the Imports Folder of Photos

    They'll be in .mov format and can be imported directly into PRE Macintosh.

    You don't say which operating system you're using.

    But HEVC video from iPhones is only editable on the Mac version of Premiere Elements.

    If you'd like to edit this type of video on a PC, you'll need to convert it to a more standardized MP4 using Handbrake, as I show you in my tutorial.

    If you are on Windows and shoot with an iPhone there are appropriate settings in the phone.

    Open Settings > Camera > Formats.  Under Camera Capture, you have two options: High Efficiency, or Most Compatible. Tap on Most Compatible.  It will now use the standard H.264 formats.  You can shoot in the same 4K at 30fps most common consumer cameras use.  The only things you can't do in "Most Compatable" are 4K at 60fps and 1080p at 240fps.
