Question

Is there a way to turn off the video background when creating text titles?

One of our most common frustrations is trying to enter text titles on light video backgrounds.  In such cases, we struggle to see the white textbox  frame, extents, or text during creation.  This makes it hard to add, select, insert, move, or perform other text operations prior to changing the text color or adding a shape or frame behind the text.

Is there a way to turn OFF the video background in the monitor, leaving a black background and just the text?  This would allow us to easily see the text frame, extents, and text during initial creation.

To date, our only best practices workaround has been the following:

  • Create a large black shape as the background.
  • Insert text box over black background.  You can now see the text frame, extents, and text.
  • Resize and change attributes of both the background shape and the text to desired settings.
  • Drag select both objects and move to the desired location.

Thank you for any assistance.

Select all clips below the text, right click and disable, this will give you a black background,

You can also poke the Show/Hide Video button in the Header.
