Monitor Panel - some control buttons not working

Hi,

I’m a total newbie to video editing and Premiere Elements (I just installed Premiere Elements 2019). I’ve created four very small projects so far, so I’m still coming up to speed. Here’s my problem:

In the monitor panel, the Play/Pause button does not work.

The Fast-forward button does not work.

The Rewind button does not work .

In short, I cannot preview the movie inside Premiere Elements.

The Step Forward and Step Back buttons works fine.

The Go To Next Edit Point and Go To Previous Edit Point buttons work fine.

The CTI seems to work fine.

Since I cannot play the movie from within PE, I can’t monitor the audio using the Audio Mixer tool.

When I export the movie to an MP4 everything looks fine, the MP4 file plays normally using Windows Media Player.

Are these controls dependent on the type of media files I used in the project. I’ve used video clips from an iPhone 6. One of my projects uses only JPEG still photos, a slide show with narration.

Can anyone help?

Is this related to the Project Settings?

Thanks.

Bingo, your two suggestions both worked.

To fix the problem with the monitor control buttons I did the following:

    Edit -> Preferences -> General

Under “Timeline Playback Auto-Scrolling”, it was set to Page Scroll.

Using the pull-down menu I changed it to Smooth Scroll.

The monitor control buttons all work fine now.

To fix the audio (which I could not hear), I did the following:

Edit -> Preferences -> Audio Hardware

Under “Default Input”, it was set to Microphone array (Realtek . . . ). Using the pull-down menu, I changed it to No Input.

Audio now works while I scroll.

Thank you so much. This may be helpful in the future to Newbie’s when they first install the software.

I had the same problem with using the free 30 day trial version.  Thank you all very much for the help as I'm new to video editing an am hoping this software will give me a clue on how it work and potentially purchase.

I've not heard of this before!  The buttons normally do work.   As a wild guess, can you try changing the settings for Hardware Acceleration in Preferences > General?

Can you post a screen shot?

Also, try changing the Default Input to None in Preferences > Audio Hardware.
