Question

MP4 Files from KODAK will not open for importing

Recently, I had KODAK convert my home videos to a disk and an memory stick.  But, I cannot open them with Windows Media Player, or the Dell version of that or the Movies and TV app.  I wanted to direct my PC to use Adobe Premier Elements 2021, but I don't see a way to do that.   I am trying to open them on my E drive using a memory stick.  I want to make sure I can open them before I import them onto my PC.  Please advise.

I assume that the files are encoded using Apple ProRes as the codec. Try to download VLC and install it and see if you can view the files.

To find out the codec, download MediaInfo and open one of the files there.

Apple ProRes cannot be used in Adobe Premier Elements 2021.

According to Kodak Digitizing, your files on your thumb drive should be a common MP4 with a common codec.   It may be that your comuter or Premiere Elements, is balking because it is a memory stick.  If it were me, I would copy the MP4 files to my computer's primary disk drive and try with the various players or editing software.  If they are not shown as MP4 files on your memory stick, something else may be wrong.
