MP4 loading audio only

I took dashcam footage while on holiday and downloaded each days video (3 min clips) onto my laptop. I'm trying to load them into elements a few at a time in order to piece together a complete video record of the holiday.

When loading the media files into PE 2018 from the first days capture it only loads audio but every clip from all other days is ok when loading, It loads both Audio and Video.

I keep reading about the codec (whatever they are) must be wrong and to download a program to convert the files but surely video captured from the same device should not show an issue like this.

Also I have used the dashcam footage in the past with no issues at all. Please be aware that although I'm not quite a technophobe, I am not quite comfortable with "programming" issues either.

Correct answer Ann Bens

Most likely its corrupt and Elements cannot read.

Re-encode with Handbrake to mp4.

See if that will work.

Thanks Ann, this worked.

Handbrake changed it from MP4 to M4v and it loaded into PE 2018 ok. I have over 100 with the date 04/09/2022 as part of the filename which need processing also as they are all giving me the same issue. I guess this will take a while.

I still find it strange that a whole days capture has been corrupt and every date afterwards has been fine, all MP4. Unless I used a different Micro SD card in the dashcam and it was that which was corrupt. I'm guessing, but I'm sure you'll tell me if that could have caused the issue.

Anyway, thanks again for your help.

Tommy

The only thing I can say is the sd card used in the dashcam never format on the pc.

What is different INSIDE a file that works -vs- a file that doesn't work?

Report back with the codec details of your file, use the program below
Free program to get file information for PC/Mac http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download
- a MediaInfo tutorial https://youtu.be/Ivy9ckSX1M0
- when you analyze your file in MediaInfo and post a screen shot in the forum, do so in TREE view
- post your information IN your message, not as an attachment that someone would have to download

What is that supposed to mean?

Since all clips are from the same camera and some work and some don't, my first guess is that there is some "file corruption".   Can you watch the "broken" clips in a video viewer?

Yes, I can watch them all, no issues.
