Multiple Folders on my desktop -- Premiere Elements 2024 -- Why?

I am running Premiere Elements 2024 for the first time.

I put together a little three-minute Christmas video of the family.  On the desktop there's a file called "2023_Christmas_.prel" and the corresponding mp4 file.

When I click on the "prel" file and go into the program, a bunch of folders appear on my desktop:

-- Adobe Premiere Elements Audio Previews

-- Adobe Premiere Elements Captured Audio

-- Adobe Premiere Elements Captured Video

-- Adobe Premiere Elements Video Previews

-- Encoded Files

-- Layouts

Most of those folders are empty.  There is a file in "Layouts".

I have attached a Screen Save of the relevant section of my desktop.

I am running Windows 11 Home on a fairly new Dell XPS 8950 Desktop computer.

Am I doing something wrong?   Should those folders be somewhere else?

Correct answer Ann Bens

Do not put stuff on your desktop (bad habit) instead make a dedicated folder on your harddrive.

Thank you!
I have a lot of bad habits (according to my wife).  I often put stuff on the desktop to avoid thinking "Now, where the heck did I put that stuff?"
But I will do as you suggested and put a shortcut (on the desktop) to the Adobe Project folder.

What Steve said about locations...

YOUR locations will be set according to your installed drives
Every time I start a project I set my project and work files to F:\???
(Where F:\??? is an actual name created on my F drive with File Explorer)
(F is MY drive for temporary files, your drive letter may be different)
I work in EXPERT view to be able to control every aspect of my project
Click EDIT and then PREFERENCES and then SCRATCHDISKS
I set every one of the options to F:\Adobe
PrE then automatically creates sub-folders as needed
F:\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements Audio Previews
F:\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements Captured Audio
F:\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements Captured Video
F:\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Elements Video Previews
F:\Adobe\Encoded Files
F:\Adobe\Layouts
F:\Adobe\Peak Files

Thank you!

I did what you suggested and it worked.  Projects "Test1" and "Test2" went to the same folder.

And I made a shortcut on the desktop to that folder.

Those are work files and they'll show up wherever you save your .prel project file. You apparently are saving this file to your desktop.

If you delete them they'll reappear. It's best to save your project files to a folder on your hard drive rather than your desktop.
