No audio - question

Hello

I was sent a .MOV file which I have converted to an MP4. When I open that MP4 clip on my desktop (Windows 10), I can hear the audio. But when I open Premier Elements 11 | Add Media, the video of that movie clip plays but there is no audio: there are no green layers on the Audio 1 track on the Timeline and I am hoping to correct that, please?

Other audio on the same Timeline in this same project play fine.

Thanks

Steve

Premiere Elements should be able to work with that file as is, assuming you've got Quicktime 7 installed on your system. What happens when you add this MOV to your project?

It may help to manually set up your project by starting a new project and, on the New Project option screen, clicking Settings. On the settings panel that appears, select Flip/Flip Mino HD and Ultra HD 29_97p.

    Hello Steve

    Thanks again.

That .MOV clip plays fine now since I have installed QuickTime (I didn't realise that software was necessary).

There is a difficulty saving it as HD because the project will go on a DVD and the person who this is for (my mum) doesn't have an HD TV/Playerm so I am working on it now as a .MP4 file, PAL 25 frames per/sec, widescreen, 720px x 576px. That seems to be playing fine at the moment on the Timeline.

After these 30 minutes of different clips which all now have the same dimensions and audio levels, I am hoping the second 'part' of the same DVD will comprise a slideshow of still photos accompanied by a soundtrack.

    Thanks again.

This is one of the reasons it's dangerous to convert a file, unless you absolutely know what you're doing. You may well convert the file to a format that is less compatible than what you originally had.

Open the MP4 in the free download MediaInfo, open the View in Tree format and cut and paste the information to this forum. We'll be better able to make a recommendation once we know what that MP4 is made of.

Although, as I said, there was likely no reason to convert the MOV in the first place. Do you know what the specs of the MOV are? Did it come directly from a camcorder or was it too produced by a piece of software?

(Note that version 11 will require you to install Quicktime 7 in order for you to edit an MOV -- and some MP4s -- in Premiere Elements.)

    Hello Steve

Thanks for your reply and link - I have now downloaded QuickTime.

I converted the movie clip from MOV to MP4 because Prem Elements would not add the MOV files and, as I mentioned, did not play the MP4 audio. I got around that, eventually, by opening Windows Movie Maker, importing the MP4 file I had originally converted from the MOVm format, and saving it as a WMV file. I then imported that to the Timeline in Prem Elements and both video and audio on the clip play just fine, though I know this is not the ideal way of doing things.

I went to Tree View in MediaInfo bur couldn't copy and paste, so went to Text View instead. This is what it shows:
