No Brightness/Contrast Filter in Premiere Elements 2020?

Hi all.  I've been a long-time user of Premiere Elements 9.  I have not felt the need to upgrade, but now I'm interested in some of the new features, as well as the ability to create projects in 60p.  So I downloaded the trial version of Premiere Elements 2020.  (The 2021 version is not compatible with my PC)

Trying it out on previous projects, I noticed a filter was shown as "Offline", unavailable.  It turned out to be the Brightness/Contrast filter.  It seems v.2020 does brightness/contrast a different way, with a button on the side that allows this adjustment.  This means that a), I can't open older projects in the new version, as all my previous adjustments would need to be redone.  b) Worse, there doesn't seem to be a way to "animate" the adjustment, so that it changes with time across the clip.  This is essential for me, as I have many clips where the exposure changes as the scene changes, and different adjustments are needed at different points.

Is there any way to re-add this filter?  If not, then PrEl-2020 is useless to me.  In that case, what's the newest version that still used an "animatable" brightness/contrast filter?  (And the oldest version with a 1080p60 project preset.)  Thanks.  Google won't tell me.

If you are expecting to be able to open one of your projects created under PE 9 with PE 2020 (or any later version) you are very likely to be dissapointed.  It seems that some of the foramtting within the project file changes fron version to version & from 9 to 18 (which is 2020) thats a long jump.

I would have expected them to maintain backwards-compatibility.  Even someone who upgraded every year would still want to, occasionally, re-edit a project they made 15 years ago.  I was actually able to open PE-9 projects just fine, even though the project file fomat is very different.  (V9 files are XML when opened in Wordpad, readable.  There is even a web page telling how to edit them to change the project settings of a project already in progress.  I was able to change a project I accidentally started in 720p, into 1080p.  V2020 project files on the other hand look like gibberish.)

The only compatibility problem seems to be that V9 had TWO filters to adjust brightness and contrast.  Unfortunately the one now missing is the one I used almost all the time!

Yes - as do many.  However, it appears not to happen (this is a user-to-user forum).

It seems that if one restricts oneself to only using a limited number of features you might just be lucky.

But the more one learns about the features in PE the more one tends to use them!

I can't seem to edit my post, even though there have been no replies.  I want to add that I have found the Image Control filter can do what I need, so that answers my question going forward.  I still want to know about getting the old filter back so I can edit older projects that used it.
