Hi all

For some reason I have lost the sound off all my organizer clips although the sound is ok when the clips are trasferred into the video editor.

i have tried all the usual checks but so far the sound has eluded me.

Has anyone any Idea what I could try?

Thanks

Arthur

I think you're quite wise, Arthur. And I agree with you: Although Premiere Elements 2018 has some nice new features, it also has removed a couple of key components, which can make it a frustrating upgrade.

Pro is an  option. And your system can certainly handle it. But strangely enough, you may also find that "'down-grading" to an earlier version of Premiere Elements can solve your problem. Did you say you have an earlier version you can use? Might be worth giving it a try.

Regardless thanks for supporting the book!

Oops, you're right, Bill! It was about video playing in the Organizer.

But it looks like 5.1 audio is the culprit. On that we can agree.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks very much for the time and effort you have put into my problem, alas, I still have no sound on MTS files in the Organizser. The only consolation is that the sound is ok on both the original file and also when transferred from the Organizer into the video editor.

I have tried different camera settings, and it is the MTS and 5.1ch that does not work   Both the MP4 and 4K do not use the 5.1 ch and are ok.

I have set both my cameras to MP4/iframe (for now) and have downloaded “handbreak” for if I feel the need to convert my files to MP4.

For a 79 year old f..t,  I have felt at home with Adobe Premier Elements 15, (your multipix.com guide has been very useful)  I did feel that Premiere elements 18 was a poor upgrade for the money and that Adobe has given it up for the more expensive Premiere Pro.

After watching many Pro tutorials, much of what is in there is not unlike elements, I think it will be my next purchase.

I am aware that my computer is not as powerful as I would like. (i7 Q ,12GB ram and a Nvidia GeforceI, 1T. I would also would work it through a 250GB Samsung SSD portable 3.1USB drive)  so it should be able to cope with Premier Pro until I can convince the old girl that £1500 for a new computer is not a lot. It should also solve my sound problems in one go.

    Thanks again Steve

You say you have Windows 10, so this shouldn't be an issue. But indeed your MTS video is using AC3/Dolby Digital audio. It also appears to be 5.1 audio rather than stereo. Try setting your camcorder to record in stereo and see if this footage works in Premiere Elements.

The other option is to start a new project and, on the New Project screen, click Settings and then select the preset for PAL Fulll HD 1920x1080 25 fps and 5.1 audio. That should create a project that works with your 5.1 audio.

However your situation is further complicated by the fact that your camcorder is shooting at 50 fps -- and there is no Premiere Elements preset for 50 fps with 5.1 audio.

So my advice is definitely to set your camcorder to record in stereo at 50 fps. Premiere Elements 15 should be able to work with that.

The AVI has a different issue going on. It's an AVI file but it's using the AVC video codec with MP3 audio, which can be problematic for video editing -- particularly since this video also has a variable frame rate, which can cause out of sync issues. I'm not sure what the source is for this video.

In any event, one solution is to convert both of these videos to 1920x1080 MP4s using the free download HandBrake.

The other, as I've already said, is to change the settings on whatever source you're using for this video (your camcorder, your video converter or whatever the source is for your AVIs) to create more editable video in the first place.

The original post is about sound playing in Organizer!  Instead of using Organizer, I use Lightroom to keep "organized".  It won't play 5.1 audio either.

What operating system do you have? It could be that these videos use AC3/Dolby Digital audio which is not supported by pre-Windows 10 operating systems.

Open one of the videos in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo set the View to Text and then copy and paste the report it generates to this forum. We'll get a better idea what's up once we see what the audio specs of these videos is.

There are no sound settings in the Organizer, so I don't know that anything there is causing the problem.

Are you saying that no audio files will play in the Organizer either? No music clips?

    hi Steve

I have just checked and the music files and imported bird sounds will play the sound but the video clips will not.
