Organizer Issues

I've installed PRE 2023 on both my desktop and laptop computers. It appears that I might have a defective installation of the Organizer on my desktop, which of course is the computer where I really do all my editing. I was attempting to get into the Organizer's preferences to adjust the settings for the Media Analyzer. On the desktop computer, none of the menu items for the organizer (File, Edit, find, etc.) are functional. The menu headings are there, and when I hover the cursor over them the get surrounded by a white box as normal, but clicking on any menu item does nothing. I have no access to any of the menu items in the Organizer. This issue does not exist on my laptop, which leads me to believe I have a defective installation on the desktop computer. I have no issues with the Editor itself, everything appears to be fully functional. Before I reinstall the program on the desktop, I thought I'd throw this issue to the community for suggestions.

Thanks,

Russ

Well, the problem has been identified and fixed, sort of. I uninstalled both versions 2021 and 203 of PRE. I rebooted and then reinstalled 2023. No change. Still the problem with the menus being non functional. Click on a menu item and you get the white border around the item's header, but the bottom part of the white border is not visible, and no items populate under the menu item's header. It's as if the part of the screen in the organizer below the menu items where it shows Import, Media, People, Places, Events, Search, Create and Share is not yielding to the menu drop-downs and preventing them from being shown. The window for the Organizer is in maximized view. When I change the window to restored view, it defaults to the same size as maximized and has the same problem with the menus. BUT, when I resize the window in restored view to a size smaller than full screen, then the menus items work perfectly. So here’s the deal. For some bizarre reason, when the Organizer's window occupies the entire screen, either in maximized or restored view, the menus lose their functionality and cannot show themselves because the bar with the items mentioned previously blocks them from appearing. But when the window for the Organizer's window is in restored view mode and is reduced in size to anything less than full screen, the menus are fully functional. I have never seen this strange behavior in any other program on this computer, nor does the problem exist on my laptop. It would seem that there is some sort of communication breakdown between Windows, my graphics card (with the updated Nvidia studio driver) and the Organizer program. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else experiences this issue with the Organizer with its window maximized.

Problem solved with a large asterisk.

Thanks to those who replied.

Do not count on Windows to be fully up to date when it comes to device drivers
Go to the vendor site to be sure you have an updated driver for your graphic adapter
.
nVidia Driver Downloads https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
-for all Adobe programs use the STUDIO driver, not the GAMING driver
-To achieve the highest level of reliability, Studio Drivers undergo extensive
-testing against multi-app creator workflows and multiple revisions of the top
-creative applications from Adobe to Autodesk and beyond
See https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/198731/en-us/ for a 'good' Studio driver
.
If you have a laptop you MAY also need to check for a laptop specific nVidia driver
-SOME laptops require an approved driver from the laptop company, not nVidia
.
AMD/ATI Driver https://www.amd.com/en/support
.
Intel https://downloadcenter.intel.com/product/211969/Intel-HD-Graphics-Family

Thanks for the links, John! I updated to the current studio drive from the nVidia website. I also updated the drivers for the motherboard chipset. No change with the menu issue in the Organizer. Thoughts?

What operating system are you using?

If Windows, have you gone to the Intel, AMD or nVidia site and ensured you have the latest drivers for your graphics card? You'd be surprised how often updating fixes these types of issues.

Hi Steve. I just received your Muvipix.com Guide to PRE 2023 yesterday. I should have mentioned the OS is Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit. I typically keep drivers current and I am having absolutely no graphics issues on any other software. I do a ton of photo editng, so I'm a heavy user of Adobe Lightroom Classic CC and Photoshop CC under the Photography Plan, and no issues there. It's just a weird issue isolated to the basic Windows functionality inside of the Organizer. I do very little video editing, which is why I've always used Premeire Elements instead of Premiere Pro. Here's a weird thing I just discovered. My previous version of Premeire Elements was version 2021, which is still installed on the desktop. The 2021 organizer has the same issue with the menus as the 2023 Organizer, which points away from a defective installation of PRE 2023. No I'm really stumped. I will check out the graphics drivers.
