PE 2022 and Video capture

I checked with Adobe before purchase and was told the Premiere Elements 2022 could capture .AVI files from a MiniDV camcorder via Firewire on Windows 10 like PE v7 did on Windows XP for me. I installed a Startech PEX1394A2V2 card and Windows 10 Device manager shows 1394 Host controller and Imaging devices as Panasonic DV Camcorder correctly. The problem is when I try to Add Media, Videos from cameras and devices, it does my camcorder does not show up like it does in the Dev Mgr. Is this function only in the Premiere Pro version and been disabled in the Elements version? I could try WinDV but I was hoping to capture within PE like I did on my old PC.

Also, the version of PE 2022 shows as version 20.0 (xxx). It was installed from the purchased DVD and other than setting it to auto update there seems to be no manual update. Could not find anything on Adobe website for the latest PE 2022 version See attached.

I know it's confusing, but Premiere Elements 2022 is version 20.0

Thanks to all for the speedy replies.

Just out of curiousity, does Premiere Pro still capture directly via firewire? Not that I like to purchase on the extortion cloud as I am still on Creative Suite 6 and it works better than ever on a new Windows 10 PC!

I just tried MiniDV and although it's very old, 2003, it still works and should suit my needs.

Mike,

If you bought directly from Adobe, you have a 30 day refund period.   You can start the process with an online "chat" here:  https://helpx.adobe.com/contact.html?rghtup=autoOpen

As Ann says, you were mislead. Adobe removed the feature for capturing from miniDV or FireWire nearly a decade ago.

If your computer has an IEEE-1394 input, you can capture from miniDV using a third-party program and then edit those DV-AVIs in Premiere Elements. But you can't capture it in Premiere Elements. In fact, the old third-party program that can capture miniDV (WindDV) has been discontinued, though you may still find old copies of it floating around online.

You cannot capture over firewire with 2022. That feature went out the door with (not sure) version 13.

You can import mini dv avi files. There is a big difference.

You will have to use WIN DV as suggested earlier.
