PE 2023 video not displaying properly in the main edit window.

I have edited a couple of videos OK so far, but this set is puzzling me. The videos are from an iPhone 11 Pro and are 1280 x720, 29.98 fps, mp4 files. PC is a Dell Inspiron 7700AIO running Windows 11.

The video thumbnails appear in the timeline and can be viewed and edited in the clip window. But they are pixelated when viewed in the main edit window, or hey don't play at all (black screen)

When I dropped the video onto the timeline, the editing mode changed to AVCHD 720p square pixel.

Checked with Nvidia and Intel and re-downloaded and installed latest drivers from Dell, as advised by them. That made no difference at all.

Looking at another thread here, I tried restoring the workspace. That worked!! What a simple fix. Why would changes to the workspace have caused the problem ?

That is perfectly fine.

It's just a preset.

But you need to get your drivers fixed first.

Do not count on Windows to be fully up to date when it comes to device drivers
Go to the vendor site to be sure you have an updated driver for your graphic adapter

nVidia Driver Downloads https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
-for all Adobe programs use the STUDIO driver, not the GAMING driver
-To achieve the highest level of reliability, Studio Drivers undergo extensive
-testing against multi-app creator workflows and multiple revisions of the top
-creative applications from Adobe to Autodesk and beyond

If you have a laptop you MAY also need to check for a laptop specific nVidia driver
-SOME laptops require an approved driver from the laptop company, not nVidia
