Question

Playback speed - Why fast?

I just upgraded Premier Elements 14 to 2018. I have a problem now that I did not have before the upgrade...

Playback of my timeline is very high speed - 2x? 3x? (before rendering the project). It renders at the correct normal speed.

I do not know the cause.  I know there are many possibilities but I am sure it is just a simple setting because the same project plays fine with Pre14.

Also note that playback is not the same as editing. Just because the clip plays fine in a media player doesn't mean it's an editable file. Variable frame rates behave very differently, for instance, in a video editor.

Although it says "out of sync" it also may apply to your case.

What model of camcorder is your source video from and what format and resolution is the video?

Most likely this is non-camcorder video. Video produced by software (like FRAPS and Elgato game capture) as well as some phone video uses variable frame rates, which can cause odd playback issues when loaded into video editing programs.

A Canon camcorder, but this has nothing to with the camcorder. The clip plays fine in any other player and there was no problem with the earlier version of Pre.
