Question

Playing a part of a videoclip

I like to play only a part of a videoclip, placed on the timeline (Advanced mode).

How can I manage that?

And where can I find a picture of Premiere Elements in Advance mode with explanations (how and when to use)  of all buttons, icons markers etc. In the online manual I find mostly a description of something and not an arrow with text pointed to the button or icon which is concerned.

Try Steve Grisitti's 8 part series on YouTube.  He has them for several versions of Premiere Elements.  This is the link to the current 2025 version:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q1sXeMSHayM

Not quite sure what you mean by play part of clip in timeline?

1. Double click on clip in Project window, this will open the clip in the source monitor. Set in and outpoints and drag to timeline.

or

2. Put in outpoints of the Work Area Bar over the part of the clip in the timeline and hit Enter.

Manuals usually dont tell you how to use the software but only explain the function of e.g. a button.

The online Help is far from perfect.

So just ask here on the forum.

Sorry for my clarity.

I have a clip placed on the timeline. Within that clip there is a fragment or scene that I only want to repeat playing several times to try to determine what is happening in that fragment. I had placed the playhead to the begin of the fragment and clicked on the scissors and also at the end of the fragment. Then I clicked on that fragment to select it (make it "active"). Now I had hoped that only that fragment would be played back (pressing the spacebar) and not the entire clip. That did not happen.

Then I double clicked the fragment and a monitor opened with the fragment. From that moment I am lost how to realize my wish.

Otherwise I can temporarily delete the clip parts left and right of that fragment and normally use the spacebar.

"Now I had hoped that only that fragment would be played back"

On a Windows keyboard, PgUp and PgDn will move the playhead to the beginning or end of a selection.
