Premiere El. 7 on Windows 10

Installed my old Elements 7 on Windows 10.  Slide/video project went OK, but I can't record it.  Then a window pops up with a link to an encoder webpage, that just shows a 404 error.  I did pay and register for this way back and still have the box.  What can I do?

Thanks for reporting back, Elisabet. Happy new year to you too!

Each version is complete and independent. You can have several versions installed on the same computer.

Steve, I purchased Prem. Elements 15, in the hope that it would fix my El.

7 project (on my Windows 10), but it didn't. So now I'll have to start

    over on El. 15. Sigh...

But thanks for your ideas and I wish you a Happy New Year!

You can not finish your version 7 project in version 15. In fact, trying to may corrupt the file and make it  unusable.

Though as I've said, installing version 15 may "fix" version 7 so you can complete your project. Otherwise, the best move is to start fresh in version 15.

    Steve,

So, can I install the version 15 without un-installing the version 7

first? It may not "fix" my version 7. But at least I may be able to somehow

use them at the same time (minimize the version 7 project while working on

the version 15, so that I can see exactly what I did before in version 7).

It would help in making the new project, rather than creating and

calculating every tiny little thing again from scratch, it would save me a lot of

time. And then uninstall version 7 when I'm done with the project. What do

    you think?

I'm sure you will find version 15 will remedy your issues, Elisabet.

I suppose I should uninstall the Prem. El. 7 before installing 15. What

happens to my "draft" work-in-progress video on Prem. El. 7 then? Does it

stay? Will the 15 software recognize it and can I finish it in 15?

I'm still not sure what you're saying, Elisabet. I've never heard of making a "draft copy" of a video.

Are you saying you can't output a video? What do you see if you select Export & Share/to Computer with the 1920x1080 resolution and MP4 output template?

Thank you Steve. When I say "draft", I mean the process of putting the

photos & videos together and add the effects and transitions, and you have a

small low resolution window to see what you are doing. (Sorry, I am not a

technical person, and not accustomed to the language used.)

Yes, I meant that I couldn't output the video. After "share" and choosing

MPEG, I could not save (I mean the lower-right "save" button, I don't mean

the save button at the top). A new (never seen) small window comes up,

which tells me to save the serial number to a linked webpage it provides, and

that webpage is not valid anymore, error 404. I wish they could have just

said that the version 7 can not be made to work anymore. I wasted a lot

of time. I think I will have to buy the new version 15, and hope that I

don't have to redo the work I put into the video.

I appreciate your effort, Steve. Thank you.

I can't guarantee that 8 year old program will work on Windows 10 64-bit, Elisabet. But, if you are having problems, it might resolve things to run the program in Windows 7 Compatibility Mode.

Also, the program may need to activate some components that are no longer possible to activate. If that's the case, try downloading and installing the free trial of version 15. It may install the components version 7 needs.

Beyond that, what do you mean by "I can't record it." What are you trying to record?

By "I can't record it", I mean that I can make the draft copy, and I can

save it, so that I don't lose the draft frames while I'm working on it, but

can't save the video at the end, so that I can watch the whole thing on my

computer and/or burn it to a DVD for my family.

    Thank you!
