Premiere Elements 14 Won't Import H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10)(avc1) From GoPro

I'm using Premiere Elements 14, i'm trying to import video recorded on a GoPro Hero 7 and getting an Error Message "The importer reported a generic error".

Video plays fine in Windows Media and VLC, the Codec is H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10)(avc1) in a resolution of 1920x1440

Very sketchy info online on how to resolve this other than to convert to another Codec which is not sustainable as this is now my main video camera . Any suggestions on how to get Premiere Elements 14 to recognise the Codec or is it another issue?

I wonder how your video is 1920x1080 but with a 4:3 aspect ratio? There's also a strange indicator that the video has been flipped 180 degrees.

Is this the video directly from the camera, or did you use some software to get it from the camera to your computer?

Converting is one solution. I'm glad to hear that works.

But meantime, as indicated on the box, version 14 of Premiere Elements required Quicktime components to work with certain videos. I assume you don't have it installed.

Quicktime is no longer available, but you can install Quicktime Alternative and it should provide you with a number of important codecs.

1920x1440 = 4:3. There is a setting that lets you flip the image. (same as on a phone which does it autom).

Quicktime is still available. Install only the codec not the player.

H.264 comes in different flavours. I have seen this with Premiere Pro, A new Gopro did not play well until Premiere was updated as in optimized for the codec.

I dont seen E14 going through the same proces.

Might want to try Handbrake.
