Premiere Elements 2018 Dynamic sequence preset no longer works

Please help...

Premiere Elements used to do the leg work for me and help me make sure I had the correct project settings. This no longer happens.

When I add a movie clip to the Expert view timeline, Adobe Premiere Elements 2018 DOESN'T automatically changes  project settings in the background to match the clip properties.

The clip has an orange line above.

Thanks for any insight.

I am running on Windows 10 and have tried reinstalling and resetting preferences.

The issue is that the video uses a variable frame rate as part of its compression system. It also uses the non-standard resolution of 2560x1440.

My recommendation would be converting the video to more standard 1920x1080 video at 30 fps Constant Frame Rate using the free download Handbrake. I've created a free tutorial on using Handbrake to convert your video to a more standardized format.

If you'd rather not convert your videos whenever you want to edit them, you can try changing the setttings in your  S8 to record 1920x1080 or even 3840x2160 video. Though if you want to edit video with a variable frame rate, you'll likely need to upgrade to Premiere Elements 2019, which supports this type compression.

Thanks Steve for the information. I have made previous home movies with

this type of footage. How would the final output be affected? I haven't

noticed anything but have not compared it on the big screen to unedited

footage...

Any clue to why the dynamic message no longer appears at all regardless of

what type of vid?

Excuse my inexperienced questions. I have used the program for many years

but just for making our family vids.

All I know is that converting your videos to a more standardized format with Handbrake will make them editable in Premiere Elements 2018.

I've not had that happen.  My guess would be that your source footage has a unique property that is not recognized.  If it were me, I would create the project setting manually.  Be sure and check the box.

And just so we'll know for sure, open one of your video's in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the report that opens and paste it to this forum.

Once we know the specs of your video we'll know better why the program isn't recognizing it.

I really appreciate your time and offering to help! I spend ages trying to troubleshoot myself first and contacted Adobe help.

I tried many different pieces of footage I had from different sources and set the project settings to all different things but I could not get the message re project format that I used to get.
