Premiere Elements 2018 on Windows 10 won't recognize camcoder

I have just moved to a new computer running Windows 10 Pro. Device Manager recognizes the ieee 1394 adapter, and it recognizes the Canon ZR50MC camcorder (an oldie). But I can't get Premiere Elements to recognize the camera. Any suggestions?

Premiere Elements doesn't capture miniDV or HDV footage over a FireWire connection, george, and hasn't since version 12.

You'll need to use a program like WinDV to capture the footage. You'll then be able to import that footage into a Premiere Elements project.

That is correct. Since Elements 14 (not sure) you cannot capture from tape camera any more. Feature has been removed.

But as you still have firewire on your computer you can use WinDV which works under Windows 10.

Capture and import into Elements.
