Premiere Elements 2022 Audio Export Sounds Distorted on Mac

When I listen to the narration in a project of mine, it sounds fine to my ear, but when I export it as an mp4, the narration audio sounds almost distorted and tinny-ish. I tend to export using a "high" quality, but also tried "medium" quality -- the same result both times. I am using the software's preset of MP4 - H.264 (export to my computer). Elements is the 2022 version, and I'm on a fairly new MacBook Pro. Not sure if this is fixable? Any advice? Thanks.

In your Premiere Elements project, open up the Audio Mixer from the audio Tools. Watch the audio levels as you play your audio.

Does it peak in the yellow? If it peaks in the red, your audio level is too high and your output will sound over-modulated, as you describe.

If that's not it, it might be best if you posted the audio somewhere we could hear it (like on YouTube).
