Premiere Elements 2025 Video Transitions refuse to allow default selection

Video Transition default appears pre-set at cross-disolve and no matter what I try I can't change the defult to a different transition. I have even uninstalled Premiere Elements and re-downloaded it but the same problem remains. Can anyone help please?

You don't say if you're on a Mac or PC -- but on my Windows computer, if you right-click on any transition in the Transitions panel you'll see the option to set it as default.
