Premiere Elements crashing since downloading 2021.1

I am experiencing crashes in the program (2021.1) that were not in evidence under the previous version.

On most of my attempts to add text to Titles, there are long pauses where I cannot continue. Eventually a crash occurs and I have to Force Quit the application.

I noticed that the Premiere Projects folder had a large number (c.50) of rendered files that I had not chosen to create myself. It seems the perhaps the long pauses I mentioned above were due to the app automatically writing these rendered files. While that was happening, all menu items were greyed out. After a while, they became operative again.

As a solution, should I uninstall the application, then download it again and reauthorise it with ny serial number?  (Note that my original download of the program was a Trial version. I later changed that to a paid version. This may not be relevant, but I'm mentioning it just in case it is a factor.)
