Question

Premiere Elements freezing

I recently bought a new computer, specifically because my 4 year old computer could not seem to  handle Premiere elements. I bought the following, because I read that this type of processor was good for editing.

Processor            Intel(R) Core(TM) i9-14900   2.00 GHz

Installed RAM    32.0 GB (31.7 GB usable)

Device ID             C1629DE7-3753-460B-9D40-B5728DC66286

Product ID           00355-62028-64480-AAOEM

System type       64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Pen and touch   No pen or touch input is available for this display

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060Ti

However, I'm still finding that after filling up about 5-6 tracks with audio and video, I start to get considerable freezing. I press play, but either nothing happens, I get only audio with the timeline bar not moving, or sometimes I just don't get audio.  It seems to work better if I haven't made any changes over the pasdt s everal minutes, but even then, it often doesn't work when I click on the Play button

I'm starting to think that perhaps it was not my previous processor at fault, but that Permiere Elements is made for editing home videos with 1 or 2 tracks, but not more involved ones. Or perhaps, and hopefully, I don't have my settings optimized.

Any thoughts?

Thank you.

What are the hard drives (how many, what kind, what is on each, what capacity, and how full)?

I'll try what you rec'ed about MediaInfo, in a little while.

But to answer your latest  question. I have a 1 TB SSD, which has about 800 GB's free. Of course, my Premiere elements and photoshop programs are on there.

I also have a 2 TB hard drive, which only has about 300 GB on it (ie, about 1.6 TB free.)

I guess I should have furnished that info at originally.

Thanks.

@larryn58205743

Is the 2 TB drive an SSD or HDD?
Is your media on an SSD?

Also what is the source of the video you are editing? Is it from a camcorder? Is it 1920x1080 or 3840x2160?

I'm not sure about the resolution numbers, but I'm using video from a Canon digitial SLR  (EOS Rebel SL1)

Thanks.

Kind of important to know the specs of video because that more than anything can affect the program's performance. Open your video in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the report it generates and paste it to this forum.

Are you using the studio driver?

nVidia Driver Downloads https://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us
-for all Adobe programs use the STUDIO driver, not the GAMING driver
-To achieve the highest level of reliability, Studio Drivers undergo extensive
-testing against multi-app creator workflows and multiple revisions of the top
-creative applications from Adobe to Autodesk and beyond

I don't know if that one is included, but I did read that Intel had problems with 'some' i9 processors

I don't do that, so have no ideas

Thank you, John Smith. I see that you gave me a link to download that driver. But I was thinking that it would be helpful if I could first find out which driver is already selected on my new computer. Can you suggest a way to do that. I DID search on that, but was not able to figure it out. I AM able to access my NVIDIA control panel, but it's not clear how to look for this info on that screen. I also went thru the Settings tab, but was not able to determine if I'm using the SD (Studio driver) version of NVIDIA.

Thanks again.

After writing the above note,  I did go back to that site you sent me a link to. I did download the studio driver.  Still not sure how to make sure which of the 2 drivers is chosen.

After the download was complete, it DID ask me to choose which driver I wanted. I DID choose the Studio Driver. So I guess I can assume this one is now in play.

Thanks again.
