Question

Premiere Elements importing only the audio from my video files

I have a MacBook pro with OS High Sierra 10.13.6. I just downloaded Adobe Premiere Elements 2020 and tried to edit videos that I recorded using Quicktime, so they are .mov files. When I import them, it shows up as audio only.

I checked the permissions, cleared my cache, changed the file name to .mp4 and a few others and tried a couple other troubleshooting tips I came across. All to no avail. Does anyone know why this is happening and have a solution?

Really? This was still an issue with the 2020 release? 😧

The Quicktime MOV file is not so much a video type as it is an envelope for a set of compression systems or codecs. An MOV can use any of dozens of codecs and can be very difficult to identify with a program like MediaInfo (a free download).

Open your MOV in MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the text of the report it generates and paste it to this forum. Once we know what your video file is made of we'll be better able to help you out.

By the way, what device (a camcorder, phone, etc) was used to create this MOV?
