Question

Premiere Elements won't open

Hi, everyone. I am dismayed to see how many people have this same issue, and nothing seems to fix it. I have a Mac w/ Catalina 10.15.4.

About once in every 10 tries, the program will open and I can work--for a while--until it freezes up again. Most of the time, the app icon either bounces up and down eternally without opening, or it will say that it's loading the workspace but never does...I just get the spinning beach ball of death. Sometimes restarting my computer can work, but not usually. I had a friend who thought it was a memory issue--only to buy an expensive computer and have the same issue.

A 30 minute project takes about 3 days because of how many times it freezes up and I need to try to reopen or reboot (which may or may not help).

I'm about to toss in the towel with this program. Can uninstalling and reinstalling do anything? If so, how do I do that?

Thanks --Kris

Could you please specify more details about the Macbook pro model and the version of PRE you are using? Also, is the PRE freezing when you start a new project or you are opening already saved project. A little more details about the project and the items you are using would help.

Usually when the program won't open it's because it has not completely closed after the last session. As I've responded to people having this issue, on Windows you can manually close Premiere Elements' background process in the Task Manager and you will be able to launch the program.

I do not know the Mac equivalent of the Task Manager.

Rebooting will also clear the program from running in the background, but it's kind of a pain to do that every time you want to start the program.

BTW which version of the program are you using? Apple's latest software updates have made version 2019 and earlier unable to run. With OS 10.15 Macs can no longer work with programs designed for earlier operating systems. That's an Apple thing, and the only solution seems to be working with Parallels.

Version 2020 of Premiere Elements, however, is compatible with Catalina.
