Premiere keeps freezing/crashing after update

Are you saying you've only got 6 gigabytes of space left on your hard drive?! Particularly if your drive is fragmented, that's way too little space to edit video on. The program is crashing because it's choking on read/write space.

Also, iPhone video may not be the best to experiment with. But that also depends on which model of the iPhone you have. (Details are everything, as you can see.) Newer versions of the iPhone shoot video with a variable frame rate, which can be troublesome for video editing programs. In any event, you will need to have Quicktime installed on Windows 10 in order to work with pretty much any iPhone video -- though how vital that is depends on which version of Premiere Elements you're running.

So depending on which model of camcorder you have, it might be best to do your test runs exclusively with camcorder footage until we can narrow down your problems.

Can you confirm that you're using Premiere Elements and not Premiere Pro? There's a huge difference. It also might be helpful to know which version of whichever program you're using.

Do you at least know which version of Windows you're using?

If I can assume Windows 10, click your Start menu and then the Settings cog. On the window that opens, select System and, on the page that opens, click on About. That will tell you what processor you have and how much RAM.

I assume you know how to figure out how much free space is left on your hard drive.
