Project Assets doesn't drop down

I have

Adobe Premiere Elements 15

Version 15.0 (20160905.daily.1036636)

In Expert mode

If I click

Add media

Files and Folders - in the menu that drops down

Select 3 MP4s from a folder on my external hard drive

Adding media... - Is displayed briefly

If I click on Project Assets - Nothing drops down

There are also no clips in the timeline

I've tried deleting

"C:\Users\<*My PC User Name*>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Elements\15.0\Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs"

and when I open Adobe Premiere Elements 15 again and try to add three clips again,

the Project Assets drops down on the first project I create but then

fails and Project Assets doesn't drop down anymore if I create new projects or load existing

"C:\Users\<*My PC User Name*>\Documents\Adobe\Premiere Elements\15.0\<*My Premiere Elements Projects*>.prel" projects.

    That is very odd behavior.

It may be that the computer you have is simply not strong enough for video editing.  Once the project is open, it is working so hard at making the preview and cache files that there is not enough left for getting the Assets box to react.

On this chart (PassMark CPU Benchmarks - High Mid Range CPUs ) your CPU gets a score of 3,032.   Video editing should have two to three times higher than that.

It may also be that you have things running in the background that are using up to much of what the computer does have.  Available Physical Memory of 2.42 GB is awfully low for video editing.

You may be able to use the Windows Resource Monitor, look for other programs (including virus protection) that are running and shut them down.
