I started a new project in PE 2020.  Set video to DV 720x480.  Import a video that is 720x480 and now the project is showing 640x480.

How are you picking the settings?  Are you checking the box to force settings?  What is the source of the video?

The normal and expected way to establish project setting is to let Premiere Elements do it.  Rather than pick settings, you slide a primary clip to the time line to establish the best settings.

You might want to verify what is in that file

John, thanks for the tip about media info.  I ran that and it says the file I am starting with is a 720x480 file which is what Windows had said too.

Thanks Bill, I completely overlooked the force settings box.

How do you start a project with no settings?

Thanks

Bill, a follow on question.  I set the project 720x480, imported a 720x480 file (with no black around the video), exported a 720x480 file and the output video has a black box around the video, so the video is no longer 720x480.  Any thoughts on this?  My goal is to produce a 720x480 video without black bars.

Thanks,

Jim
