Project will not upload

I have been in the middle of editing a project for the past 3 days. Tried to continue working this morning and the computer does its occasional update. When it finished, I  tried to reopen my project and a box popped up which read "Adobe Premiere Elements 12 has encountered a problem and will have to close".

Computer: PC (Dell Inspiron 15)

OS : Windows 10

I have not taken any steps to trouble shoot the issues because I don't know what steps to take.
