Projects playingback too fast

Hi!

So I've shot some standard video with my dslr in 23.98 fps and when I draw in the media to my timeline (a fresh timeline ) it plays it back in about double the speed. The audio quality gets so poor I can't timestretch it back and I dont believe I should be doing that for a standard clip. I'm a newbie at the program but this just seems stupid... Video format is MP4.

Thankful for any help!

/Oscar

Check your audio hardware in the preferences and set input to none.

Frankly, I've seen the "Audio Hardware: No Input" mentioned all across the Internet as a solution for this problem. Unfortunately, it does not work in every case, such as the one I'm dealing with now.

This seems to be a problem dating back about 10 years. Considering the high cost of Premiere, you'd think Adobe would FIX THIS BUG. It's inconceivable that I'm being advised to use a free open source tool to work around a bug in high priced commercial software. If I wanted to use free open source, I'd be using OpenShot, not Premiere.

Am I the only one who thinks this is just wrong?

Are you referring to Premiere Elements or Premiere Pro as this is the Elements forum.

Premiere Elements 2019. Being in a time crunch. I ended up installing OpenShot to complete the project.

Great call, Ann! Though I'm really surprised to learn that the preference made that much difference in playback!

So I guess I'm still learning...

If you converted the file to an MP4 with Handbrake and you are NOT seeing a yellow orange "render" line above the video when you add it to your timeline and you're STILL seeing the video play too fast, I don't know what is up. There is absolutely no reason an MP4 from Handbrake would do this.

That wasn't the case here but I have seen that orange line in previous projects. Just curious, what does it mean?

Which version of the program are you using on what operating system? And what  kind of camera did you shoot this video with?

Your video uses an mp42 codec, which can be problematic. Though it depends on things like your OS and which version of the program you're using.

As an experiment, try converting one of your video's to a standard MP4 using the free download Handbrake. I show you how to do this in my free tutorial.

Converting videos with Handbrake - YouTube

Then load this new MP4 into Premiere Elements and see if you get the same results. Just as an experiment.

I am using the 2018 version of Premiere elements on Windows 10. The camera was a Canon eos 200d with the video setting set for NTSC.

I followed your tutorial and made it a MP4 set to 23.98 fps and the second time to 30 fps but the same problem persists...

Please use the free MediaInfo and post a screenshot the properties of your media in tree view:

As Bob says, open your original video in the free download MediaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy this text and paste it to this forum.

Once we know the specs of the source video I'm sure we'll be able to help you out.
