Saving DVD inputs in other formats

I purchased Premier Elements 12 some years ago and due to work commitments didn't have time to use it.  I have just started copying some old VHS stuff, mostly old analogue camera stuff, onto DVD so that I can edit and save as MP4.   Not too challenging to import the DVD files into Elements, but saving as a MP3 file, which the brochure says it works with seems impossible.  I was thinking of upgrading to the Premier Elements 2022 version, but would rather spend my money elsewhere if it is not going to be possible to save the edited DVD video file as an MP4.  Can anyone advise if this is possible with the 2022 version please.

Needless to say, you'd be better off capturing your analog VHS video as an MP4 in the first place. For one thing, you'd save yourself an extra step (and a chance for something to go wrong). For another, DVDs are standard definition video -- the equivalent to 640x480 pixel video. That's only about one-fourth the resolution of today's TV. Which means it's not going to look very good.

 

But that said, you can edit DVD video in Premiere Elements 12 and output as a standard definition MP4. You just put the DVD in your computer's disc drive and, from the upper left of the program, select Add Media/From DVD Camera or Computer Drive.

 

It's not by any means the best way to get video from VHS to MP4 -- but it will work as well in version 12 as it will in version 2022.
