Question

"Share" or "Render" Causing Program to Crash

I am using an older version of Elements (Premiere Elements 9).  I completed a project on my Mac laptop with some issues (due to space on Mac) but was able to finish the project.  I ended up sharing on Youtube and saving it to my computer.

My new project is complete and so I'd like to save it onto my computer (a new HP laptop with tons of memory and was told it'd be able to run Premiere no problem) and upload it to Facebook.  Besides the occassional (and very few) crashes, I had no issues with this project on my new laptop until I went to share it.  It saved to my computer a couple times in AVI, however I wasn't satisfied with the quality as it appeared there was a texture (lines/grooves) to the video and it was very small.  So after a few tries, I deleted them and tried to do it again with a few different settings and it started crashing halfway throughout the save.  So I tried to render first as I haven't done it this project... and it would also crash the program half way through.

Any suggestions on how I can get my project saved/exported???

Version 9 didn't do a good job of mixing media sources. It also was pretty primitive when it came to working with MP4s and HD video. I don't know that it's even capable of working with 5184x2912 video. I'm not sure even current versions can work that format, in fact!

Look under the program's Edit menu. What is listed on the General page under Project Settings.

As I said, pre-version 11 versions of Premiere Elements required you to manually set up your project to match your video specs. (Newer versions do this automatically.) Incorrectly setting up your project can lead to inefficient performance and poor quality video output.

Not without more details.

I assume your new HP is using Windows 10 Pro, but what processor do you have with how much RAM?

Are you still using version 9 on your new computer? That version is very old and doesn't even support most of today's video formats.

What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what is the video's format and resolution?

Version 9 also requires you to manually set up your project to match your video specs. What settings did you select when you set up your project?

It makes sense that outputting your movie as a DV-AVI would produce a video with lines through it sense that is an interlaced (and fairly obsolete) format.

Hi Steve,

Intel Core i5-8250U processor (1.5 GHz).  1 TB Hard Drive.  Windows 10.  8192MB SODIMM DDR4 SDRAM.

Yes, I've been using Adobe Premiere Elements 9.  It was working fine up until the end.  It crashed a couple times throughout my project (maybe once when just started project, once half way, and then 2-3 times at the end when I went to "share"). I did successfully save the video to my computer twice but the video was small and appeared as if it was textured (horizontal grooves/lines).  I deleted these first two saves to change some settings and try again (I'm a beginner so just played around with settings) and it crashed every time half way through either "sharing"/saving or rendering.

I don't remember selecting settings at the beginning.  I know last time I had to but do not remember this time.  I probably just went with what was selected.  I tried to check in my project but the preferences was not available.

Videos are off of iPhone 6S (had to convert in HandBrake in order to import to Premiere... as per Google I changed to Constant Framerate and 20-22 RF for quality factor.  And some videos are also off my Canon SX730 HS camera in 15M 5184x2912 video setting.

Hope this helps.  Suggestions?
