So-called dual monitor feature is a bad joke

Seriously: you can move the timeline to a second screen, but the timeline only? Not the video preview window? Is this a joke? No, it's intentionally bad design to make you switch -- to Cyberlink Powerdirector, I guess. Is this functionality unchanged in PrEl 2024?

Why doesn't Adobe just have a big free-floating red "X" quit button that you can move to a second monitor? That would be equally useful.  😉

I'm currently using a large screen laptop and no longer have a second monitor.   However, I don't think "bad joke" is the right description.  Certainly PrE does not provide the two or three screen studio setups that pro level NLEs offer.  Premiere Pro (and its competitors) are aimed at people that need a lot of things.  Premiere Elements is aimed at people that need simplicity and ease of use.

So why even have a second monitor option?   If the timeline becomes complex in the Expert mode where there are multiple video and audio tracks, it can help to expand those tracks vertically.  The PrE version that I had when I had the second monitor also allowed me to expand the preview pane if I made room by locating the timeline to the second monitor.

Buy Premiere Elements for its ease of use and simplicity!   Buy a pro NLE if you need vastly more complexity and features.

It's a good answer. I too switched to a larger & higher-resolution monitor instead of the old two-screen setup. But I still maintain that there's something fishy about including a two-monitor setting but enabling what's obviously the wrong tool to move to that second screen. You're right that it's not a joke -- but that means it's just dumb.

I also love how they put the timeline in one monitor but the timeline zoom buttons in the other monitor. Seriously?
