Question

Subclips?

Hello all,

I am looking for a feature in Adobe Elements 22 that creates many "sublclips" from a much larger piece of video. <<sub clips is a feature that is available in Avid Media Composer.

The idea is that you have a long piece of video and you want to view the video, pick the sections you will actually use in your edit,  and save these sections as subclips to be used for later when you do your edit. Essientially I want to find all the material I want to use in the my edit, prior to doing any editing, and save these pieces as subclips so I can just drag a subclip into the timeline vs. drag the entire piece of video and then trim it.  Ideally these subclips would show up as individual video files in the Project Assets list, and they would be nameable so at first glance I know what the clip is. I have not been able to figure out how to do this in AE.

Is this doable?

If you want to break a longer clip into shorter clips for use later in the same project, there are a number tools in the program. The most advanced is the Smart Trim tool.

However if you're looking for a tool that takes a long clip and output shorter clips from it directly to your hard drive, there is no such tool in Premiere Elements.

Yeah Smart trim won't work for me as it does things automatically. In my case I have an hour long volleyball video(with literally 150 different scored points and I need to find the best vollebyall spikes in it. I need to watch the video, then manually select the best spikes, and save these as inidividual in/out points or subclips, to be dragged into the timeline later. I basically want to preview all my footage and save all the clips I want to use as individual pieces. They don't have to be individual video files, they can be pointers to the in and out points of the larger video file is all.

Super Dad,

There is a way that might work, but I'm not sure it is the perfect solution for you because there is a little manual work to do.  But, getting orgainized might be worth it.

"The idea is that you have a long piece of video and you want to view the video,"

Put the entire video on the time line.

"pick the sections you will actually use in your edit"

Put the work area bars at the in and out points of your chosen section.

" and save these sections as subclips"

Export and Share with the work area bar only box checked and pick a unique name.

When you are done, outputing the highlight clips with names, use Add Media to bring them all in at once.

I think I just found the answer on my own. There is no sublcip feature in Elements and instead you have to purchase Premiere Pro?

I wanted to but Premier Pro but couldn't justify the cost of a subscription based editor.

[post edited AE to Elements. AE stands for After Effects. mod]
