Too much audio tracks after pasting AVCHD files in new project (premiere elements 2919)

I am a convinced user of Premiere elements (2019) but suddenly encounter the problem that mts files (AVCHD) from my Sony camcorder ( made in HD 50 p 1920 x 1080) are not shown with one audio track (as always before) but some - not all - are split into all audio lanes ( total of 6) in my completely new project. It seems not to have anything to do wit the original file since when testing the same clips they appear sometimes depicted with one audio track but sometimes with 6.

I am quite desperate since I am travelling on an Iseland tour right now and don't have a clue why that happens and how to change it. Never had it before - same camera same elements version. In case anybody has some advice - I'd be so happy! I can provide screenshots if helpful.

I have a similar Panasonic AVCHD camera. The extra audio tracks come from the built in AVCHD Dolby sound. My experience is that it can be ignored because at output, Premiere Elements creates a standard two channel audio track. If your AVCHD Sony is like my AVCHD Panasonic, the camera menus will let you choose a two channel recording mode.

Thanks for the quick answer. I am aware of the cam function but would like to solve the software issue because I already recorded a few hundreds of clips. I use to adapt a lot the audio when cutting: change volume levels in many ways. I don't want to that 6 times per clip...

hope there will be a solution in elements. It is really ackward since it never appeared before and does not affect 100% of the clips. In addition, the identical clip is imported with one track in one project, with 6 tracks in another.

I dug out an .mts clip with 5.1 audio from 2016! When the audio track is 'colapsed' it looks like a single track. When expanded all channel are visible. There is only one volume line and it applies to all 6 channels. Using keyframes on that single volume line works fine. I don't have to adjust the six channels.

I tried some google searching and didn't find a suitable conversion method.

It may be that I don't understand your issue. Would you post screen shots of where you see the display of the clip with one track and all six tracks?
