Unable to center transition on cut

Between certain videos I cannot apply a transition on the cut. In the attached video there are abnormalities when trying to apply a transition that dont happen with other clips.
I could only apply transition to second clip while holding ctrl. I could not apply a center transition, even though each clip had sufficient duration and were connected (The clips snapped to eachother when moved, and thus were connected).
I've seen a similar post about this but with premiere pro, and it was solved by using the effects panel, but it appears that elements lacks the panel.
How can I fix this?

Correct answer Ann Bens

You can center a transition only when both clips are trimmed back or full end and beginning of each clip are bumped together.

As of now only the right clip is trimmed. The left is not, it has a little gray corner on the end.

Trim the left clip.

My tutorial may help you see what Ann is describing.

Frustrating.

Still not exactly sure why premiere cant handle transitioning between a trimmed and untrimmed clip.

Why cant it have the left clip freezeframe but then have the right clip run through?
