Unable to update Premiere Elements to 14.1

I am unable to update my Premiere Elements from 14 to 14.1 using the built in updater. It gets to 13% and then says Premiere Elements is running, to close it, but it IS NOT RUNNING!  Yes, I have checked in task manager. I am sure it is not running. I have rebooted and everything, it always thinks it is running and will not continue the install. I am using Windows 10. Where can I just download the update itself myself and install it without the adobe updater?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. Ideally, the update should work normally once you've rebooted the application. I understand that you've already tried multiple steps. If the issue does not get fixed after testing it in Safe Mode as suggested by @Peru Bob, I've another suggestion.

  1. Update Adobe Application Manager using this link: Adobe - Adobe Application Manager : For Windows : Adobe Application Manager
  2. After Adobe Application Manager is updated, launch Adobe Premiere Elements Editor.
  3. Go to Help > Updates, and install the available Adobe Premiere Elements update.

Let me know if it helps.

Thanks,

Shivangi

Thank you for the tips.

I was able to update it by doing the following:

  • Rebooted the computer
  • After startup ran the Task Manager FIRST and noticed Adobe Premiere Elements (component) running
  • Ended the Adobe Premiere Elements (component) task
  • Ran the Adobe Application Manager and updated to 14.1

The only thing I did differently that I had not done before was running the Task Manager before running the Adobe Application Manager. I believe that the Adobe Application Manager does TRY to stop the running process as it was never there in the Task Manager when I checked before, but I guess it does not actually notice that it did stop or it was somehow still running without Task Manager knowing (I doubt that is possible). If you stop it yourself first, then there was no problems.

If you're on Windows, open the Task Manager and dig down through the background processes. If the installer thinks the program is still running, it still may be in some form. Locate it and end the task. See if that helps.

Yes, I am very familiar with Task Manager (as I mentioned) and I am 100% sure that the program is not running at all in the background.

Are any Adobe applications running?

Most likely this update is no longer available. Adobe has stopped supporting any but current versions of its software.

On the other hand, you can try contacting Adobe, as advised on this link. If you're a registered owner of version 14, they may provide you with the 14.1 download.

Download older versions of Adobe apps

Thanks. The built in updater downloads the update just fine so I think it's still being supported.. The installation process of the update however is what fails. When trying to install the update it thinks that the program is running.. however it is not.
