Question

Video clips get corrupted

We are having a problem with Adobe Premiere Elements where video clips keep getting corrupted. The clips play fine in other players on the same laptop but fail to play from either Projet Assets or the Timeline. The only solution we have found is to delete the file(s) from the project, rename them in File Explorer and then re-add them. (Renaming is important, just re-adding doesn't work... like there is some meta data in Elements that is still around).

Attached is a video of a good clip followed by a bad one.

This keeps happening and is very frustrating. I don't even know what to search on to describe the video problem.

I have read other messages that Apple's HEVC can cause problems

See if https://handbrake.fr/ open source transcoder/converter to write a new video file fixes the problem

Exactly what is INSIDE the video you are editing?
Report back with the codec details of your file, use the program below
Free program to get file information for PC/Mac http://mediaarea.net/en/MediaInfo/Download
- a MediaInfo tutorial https://youtu.be/Ivy9ckSX1M0
- when you analyze your file in MediaInfo and post a screen shot in the forum, do so in TREE view
- post your information IN your message, not as an attachment that someone would have to download

MPEG-4 : 6.07 MIB, 5s 898 ms

1 video stream: HEVC

8410 kb/s, 1920x1080 at 30 FPS

1 audio stream: AAC LC

169 kb/s, 44.1 kHz, 2 channels

Note that the videos work fine at first, then something happens and they start to have the problem seen in the video attached above. Only re-adding the video with a different name fixes the problem (and even then the fix is sometimes temporary).

That doesn't really give us enough information about your clip.

As John requested, please open your clip in the free download MedaInfo. In MediaInfo, set View to Text and then copy the entire report displayed and paste it to this forum. With this more detailed report we'll better be able to help you.
