Question

Viewing window doesn't open...

after I load a video clip.  Loading MPG videos.

When this happens, I need to reboot.  If I close premiere and try to open it again, it won't open.

After rebooting it will sometimes work normally, but often I need to reboot a couple times.

Frustrated,

Don

Yes, that is exactly what I am calling the view window (don't know the real name).  I don't see the monitor panel in the top center.

When I load the media to the timeline, I still see the box that says:  "Add Media, Create a template based movie, Tell your story using titles, and Learn video editing".

Normally after you add a clip to the timeline, this window disappears and the monitor panel opens automatically.

OKAY, now I am more confused.

Everything is working again.  The monitor panel opens.  I can close premiere elements, and then open it again, without needing to reboot.  I have tried with several different media clips, and they all now work.

I don't think I changed anything.  I have NO explanation for what happened.

Thanks for trying to help me.

I tried adding a jpg to the time line, and it still didn't open the view window.  I then closed premiere elements, and as usual, it won't open.  After rebooting and opening the saved project with the jpg, and it opened the view box.

Once the view box is open, I am able to add other video clips (which wouldn't work previously) to the time line and everything works as it should.

This is the info from mediainfo of the file that wouldn't work previously, but now works as just stated.  VERY CONFUSING.

Maybe I'm not understanding what you mean by "open the view window."

You do see the Monitor panel in the top center of the program, right?

Is the "view window" referring to something other than that? You shouldn't have to open it.

EzGrabber may be the wild card in this game.

Open one of your EzGrabber videos in the free download MediaInfo. Set MediaInfo's View menu to Text and then copy and paste the report it generates to this forum. Once we see what your video is made of, we may be better able to help.

BTW, what happens if you place a photo on your timeline of a new project? Can you see it in the Monitor panel?

Has been working in the past.  I have gone through about 4 old video tapes.

But some of these I had to stop and reboot to get the program to work.  Now it works only after 4 or 5 reboots.

Adobe Premiere Elements 2018 ver. 16.0

    windows 10

    Intel i7-6700k cpu @4.0GHZ

    32 GB ram

    64 bit

Program on C: drive has 181 GB free

Videos on J: drive has 3.58 TB free on HD

Using EzGrabber to make video coming from Sony VCR.  Don't know the resolution, but low.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

BTW, I just remembered, I have removed the program and re-installed.

    I should add:

I can add a video clip through "add media" in expert mode.

It is when I move the video to the timeline that the problem starts.  You can see the video on the timeline, but the viewing window does not open.  Nothing happens when you hit the play button.

I did upate my graphics card (nVidia GeForce GTX 1080).

    Thanks,

    Don

    Something is up.

Which version of the program are you using on which operating system? Did it work in the past and suddenly stop or has it never worked?

Which processor do you have and how much RAM? How much free space is on your hard drive?

What model of camcorder is the MPEG coming from and what resolution is it?

Try updating or rolling back your graphics driver directly from the video card manufacturer’s site.
