What a Waste

Just lost a complete hours worth of work in Adobe Premiere Elements, it normally auto saves every so often but apparently wasn't this time, because it didn't save anything I did from the time I opened my project an hour ago. This is not the first time, and I spent hours trying to find a solution. I bought Elements so I didn't have to tie myself to some rediculous subscription plan. But this program is almost unusable. So sad that a company like Adobe can put out such garbage and not even support it. Guess I'll be researching a new video editing solution.

Try to make more free space on your C drive.

July 24, 2022

So someone else had suggested that as well. And so I cleaned off some apps, went from about 50 GB to 70 GB, well, that didn't help. As it turns out, it must need much more. I noticed that while editing my HD was revving up and running it's rear end off. Very strange. So I closed all the Adobe apps (I'm on Win 10), and moved the current Premiere project to my Western Digital USB drive. It has over 300 GB of space. I think it might be solid state as well, but anyway, I reopened Premiere and started editing, and my harddrive is quiet and so far (knocks wood) no crashing. So if this works, then my entire Video folder will be moved to the USB drive. Thanks for the info.

Okay, so it just crashed again. I was working on this video (I have installed the STUDIO driver for my Nvidia graphics card as suggested. I removed a bunch of programs that I didn't need to gain more HD space and even disabled the internal graphics card as suggested. All I did was open this project, add some new video I shot for it, then went to the Title menu to add some titles and it crashed.

Hahahaha. It just crashed again!

So I tried to improve the performance of this software and actually made it worse! Now it crashes every 10 to 15 minutes.

Three things

Cell phone video is often Variable Frame Rate, which does not edit well

-if VFR convert to constant frame rate with https://handbrake.fr/ open source transcoder/converter

Your screen doesn't show which driver

-for all Adobe programs use the STUDIO driver, not the GAMING driver
-https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverResults.aspx/159679/en-us/
--To achieve the highest level of reliability, Studio Drivers undergo extensive
--testing against multi-app creator workflows and multiple revisions of the top
--creative applications from Adobe to Autodesk and beyond

Having two active display adapters will sometimes 'confuse' the program

My Intel i9 also has a built in '630' graphics adapter, but my motherboard automatically shut it off and my system only sees the nvidia GTX 1650 that I use

Any video I shoot with the iPhone 13 is always convert in Handbrake, Premiere won't even import it because of Apple's fun new HEIC format. The iPad tablet is a bit old and doesn't use the HEIC format.

I will try disabling the Intel Graphics adapter

Will try the STUDIO driver. Thanks for the info.

Although 54.6 GB might seem like plenty of space, you might be running short!  Video editing software makes lots of big "work in progress" files.   It may have stopped working because it needed more space.

>randomly quit on me. Maybe I need more RAM or something?

Since you provide zero information there is no way for anyone to even try and help

You need to provide details for anyone to help
Mac or Windows and exact version of the operating system
Exact Premiere Elements version (any updates applied?)
CPU brand and model and clock speed
Amount of computer memory (RAM)
Video adapter brand and model and driver version and amount of video ram
Number and size and type of hard drives
What kind of video are you editing?
-hint 4k video on an underpowered computer will not play well

Fair enough:

Type of videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r331I8Ffo24&t=2s

No 4K, only 1080 HD. Shot off iPhone 13 and iPad.

Is it set to save to an external drive that doesn't have a fixed drive letter or is not connected?

The project is set to save to: C:\Users\Jason\Videos\Guitar Dungeon Episodes\Raw Footage\GD Ep 25 - Roland D20.

It would be useful to see your settings at Edit-Preferences- Autosave. I set mine in PRE to save every 5 minutes  I've not encountered the problem and make at least 2 elaborate videos a week and have done so since the beginning of lockdown  I hope this is of use.

But it never actually auto saved that day I was working when it crashed.

Okay, duh, I actually was able to find the auto saved version of it the night I lost it. So it was saving. Still not entirely happy that the software just randomly quit on me. Maybe I need more RAM or something?

Mine works.  But, that doesn't help you.  Just in case I can help, where did you look for the backups?
