Whole PC crash when moving in timeline

Hi,

 

I just get Premiere Elements to make some quick and nice video, and got some really bad issue with my second project...


When I try to look work with a simple project, it make my whole PC freez. I can do nothing but hardreboot it. All the background soft stop working, so this is not just a GUI freez, but a crash that keep display the last image somehow.

 

My project is very simple. All new, I added one video in media, then droped it into the timeline. That's all. That's a 142Mo file, 1280/720 25FPS video, 26min32sec long. So nothing huge. I did nothing else than importing this video into the project and the timeline. No effect, nothing.

Premiere Elements seem up to date.
Working on a windows 10 pro, up to date to.

My GPU driver are also up to date.

(I installed this windows 2days ago, so it's still pretty clean)

 

Hardward side, I'm working with a i9-9900K, a RTX 2080Super and 64Go of ram. Should be enough?
The OS run on a mvne ssd, but this project files are on a good old (brand new) mechanical HHD.

When I resart Premiere Elements, it say nothing about the crash.

 

I have look a bit around here, but found not topic on similar issue (whole PC crash). I may just being bad with the search tool tho...


What should I do?

This does not come up often.  The few times it has, one of the remedies is to back up to an earlier graphics drive.  It is possible that the graphics drive is newer than the Premiere Elements coding and has a conflict.

Best is to use a SSD, hdd are too slow.

So nothing huge

It usually not the filesize but the codec used as H.264.

Indeed, but SSD space is expensive 😄 
My video projects are often a bit heavy (I like to have tone of footage to only keep few sec of video). But it seem like Premiere Elements use some smart way to save them as they are way lighter than expected (I was using free video software before)
But if this could be an issue for editing, I could have a dedicated space on SSD for my current project and then move them on HDD when I'm not working with it.

Try using the Studio Driver instead of the Game Ready Driver:

    Nice idea too! I'll try if I still have issue with gaming driver

    Oké, 

    I'm currently running the 451.67 version of Nvidia driver, that is, indeed, not even 10days old. I'll roll back from 2 version to the 446.14 one released on  27/5/2020 and do some tests. 


    Due to the nature of this crash, I hope you understand that I'll not be able to make many of them, but'll do my best.

    I'll do that tomorow and let you know, Thanks
