Question

Why does adding a time zone to speed up a segment of video delete the following audio?

It looks really cool, but removes my narration but not the ambient sounds. Not working. What's wrong?

The Time Remapping tool applies time shifts only to video. Not audio. The audio linked to your video is disconnected or deleted.

However, it should have no effect on the audio on other tracks. So, if your narration, sound effects or music is on a separate track, remapping time on a clip should not remove, mute or change it in any way.

Where is your narration clip? Is it separate from the clip you are time remapping?

I am new to Elements, so please bear with me...  Is it possible to retain the audio on the normal speed parts of the clip?  For example normal speed for 1 minute (normal audio), 5X speed for 3 minutes (no audio) and then back to normal speed (normal audio)?  Or can I split the audio on a seperate file to add a second layer?

Not with the Time Remapping tool, if that's what you're asking.
