Windows Projects on Mac - compatibility with some versions?

moving from windows to Mac I experienced the situation that some of the windows projects .prel can be opened on Mac without complications and some don't. I'm not quite sure but it seems that projects saved with version 12 are compatible. Can anyone confirm this?

In my experience, versions 15 and 2018 save projects in a cross-platform format. I can't guarantee that earlier versions create projects that can open on either operating system.
