Question

Windows Smart Screen Blocks ISO image write

I have the 2020 version, but this might apply to other versions as well. When I tried to write an ISO of a video project, Smart Screen blocked the writer. Can anyone tell me the name of the executable? I tried uninstalling Premiere and turned off Smart Screen to no avail, so I assume the executable is marked as blocked and exists outside of Premiere.

Thank you for the quick reply. The search does give ways of unblocking a file if you know the directory or the file name. However, I do not know either. I turned off smart screen and reinstalled Premiere  a with no luck, so I am fairly confident. that the blocked file is not under the Premiere Elements 2020 directory. I could use PowerShell to unblock the file but do not know which one to unblock. It can be done by checking the unblock box in the file properties. This property is the one set by smart screen as it has no list of files it has blocked, another feature of Windows!

What I found with Google

To disable Microsoft Defender SmartScreen in Windows, you can do the following:

  1. Open Windows Security
  2. Select App & browser control
  3. Under Reputation-based protection, click Reputation-based protection settings
  4. Toggle off the SmartScreen filters for apps and files, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Store apps
SmartScreen is a security feature that scans files, applications, downloads, and websites to block known-dangerous content and warn you before running unknown applications. While it's recommended to leave SmartScreen enabled, disabling it may allow malicious applications to slip through undetected.

You can also turn SmartScreen on or off in Microsoft Edge by going to Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services. Under Services, you can turn Microsoft Defender SmartScreen on or off

This would work if I knew the filename. I could use PowerShell to do a recursive unblock, if I knew the directory. I tried the tech support but they only pointed me to a version of Premiere that does not support DVDs for only $69.99. I tried the free version they suggested which led no where.
