I keep getting an erroe message when trying to import an audio file but i have done everything the same as previous but I am now getting an error message

To your "account"? Do you mean to a Premiere Elements Project? If so, can you give more detail on the steps you are using? Can you give detail on the file? MP4 files are usually video files.

It’s an audio file that is saved on a usb that I’m trying to import. I’ve
done it every week for two years and now it won’t let me ? It was recorder
from the voice recorder on my main computer/ sound board.

If it has worked reliably for two years, then my assumption would be that there is something wrong with the file or thumb drive. Your copy of Premiere Elements didn't change. Something else did. There is a very good 'freeware' program called "Audacity", You may be able to use it to make your file usable.
