Question

Adobe Rush keeps crashing on 4 min video

I recently switched to a Dell Latitude 5420 (11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz 1.38 GHz, 8.00 GB Installed RAM) from a previous Latitude for work. I am trying to edit a 4 min video for work and Rush v2.0 keeps crashing from either simply trying to watch the video or just editing for more than 10 minutes. I don't get a crash report, the screen will freeze and the audio will continue (or just freeze within 30 seconds of trying to export) and I have to CTRL+ALT+DELETE and "end task" to get out of it. I've tried lowering the resolution, quality, exiting all other programs while running Rush, and nothing is working.

Hi Leilah,

Sorry. What kind of footage are you editing with? Certain kinds of footage may be more difficult to edit with on some computers that are somewhat underpowered or contain outdated components.

You can try rendering your sequence: Sequence > Prepare for Playback prior to playing back a sequence that is normally difficult to playback (black screens, audio trailing ahead of video, etc.).

Another thing you can try is to update your GPU drivers, which is software you download from Intel and install. More info on that for your iGPU is here. Even though a computer is new-ish, it may not be set up with current video GPU drivers and updated drivers can help.

If newer video drivers are not working for you, another thing you can do is transcode (copy) your footage to another format, like ProRes or DNxHD/HR using the free shareware "Shutter Encoder," which I use. The files are a lot larger than most editors are used to, but work tremendously well on most computers. Regarding the files, do not fret about the file size as you can delete the footage after your project is complete and delivered to YouTube or what have you.

Finally, update Rush to 2.0 if you have not already done so. Lots of bug fixes there.

Come back and let us know if you have tried these things.

Thanks,
Kevin

Hi Kevin,

I am using Rush v2.0 (I actually even tried downloading an older version as well to see if that would work.. no luck). In addition, the video files I am using are MP4s that I shot on a point and shoot video camera.

I tried all your suggestions: Prepare for Playback, updated my GPU drivers (they were up to date), and downloading/using the shutter encorder software to change my MP4 files to the DNxHD. With all that, Rush still freezes on me after about 5 minutes of editing I have to force shut it. When I try to export it, it usually freezes after 1-2 min of exporting then the progress bar just stops and I have to cancel the entire export.

Any other suggestions? Or am I going to have to use my old computer to edit videos.. that would be a pain.
