I tried doing so, but it didn't work. The only solution i see is to move the video above everything else on the timeline

I saw your note and your screen movie. Thanks for those. Yes, that looks like unexpected behavior. You might try locking the other tracks and see if that you can achieve what you want. The magnetic timeline can sometimes behave in a weird way, but locking should help. https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-rush/help/workspace-basics.html
