Crackling playback while editing on laptop

Hi there, come across a problem with my volume from my video while editing on my laptop. What happens is I can be editing where suddenly my volume will start crackling and I can't make out what I am saying. This is a problem that happens at random times and whenever it strikes it remains for the rest of the video making it impossible for me to work on my video. I had this problem two days ago where my crackling started around 30 mins into the video where I shut my computer down and restarted yet still got crackling. After putting it away for the day I opened project the next day and I could work on it for an hour and half from the time it started crackling the day before without any issues however today it starts 1hr into video where I put it away and then switched on 2 hrs later and had same problems after just a few minutes of working on the video. Can anyone help with this frustration?
