Editing playback is choppy and audio unsynced in places

Question

Clips imported into the editor are laggy/choppy during playback, even after waiting several minutes for the clip to do it's thing. The clip does not lag in the same place each time. The clip will be smooth in some spots then drag in another then playback differently the next time. One clip looses sync with audio at one point. I have tried running the media encoder on H.264 match source to the clips with little change.

The clips are screen capture video mp4s from nVidia Geforce experience using their capture settings of 60fps at 1080p. The clips play perfectly in windows media playback.

PC specs:

Intel i7 3820 3.6ghz
Win 10 64 bit
32GB RAM
GTX 970 GPU (drivers updated 15/04/20 v445.87)

Hi Marcusw,

Thanks for writing in. There are a few known issues with screen recording files playing out of Sync due to the variable frame rate. If possible, it would be great to get a copy of the file so we can determine why it's not playing well in Rush and try to get it fixed. If you're ok to share, please upload and provide a link to where I can download.

There are a few ways to improve performance in Rush outside of hardware configuration. Please try the following and let us know your results.

Pre-Render your sequence: Go to the Sequence menu and select "Prepare for Playback." Wait for the blue progress spinner to complete and then playback
Create a synced project or enable Sync for your existing project: This will create proxies files. To enable the proxies files, go to the View menu, select "Use Optimized Clips."
You can also lower the quality of playback. Under the View menu, Preview Quality > Set Preview Quality to Low or Medium.
