How to upload content from iPhone to Rush?

Pardon the ignorance here, but I am not at all a tech person...

What's the easiest way to get footage from my iphone to my macbook, so I can use Rush to edit it?  For some reason, nothing happens when I plug my phone into my laptop.  

Do I have to dowload Dropbox or something similar in order to access my info?
