I'm new to Adobe Rush, issue with external mic in ipad.

When I plug in my external mic I hit the record button, nothing happens, it seems its stuck, I looked it up on YouTube and it seems I have to go to Prefrences output/input but in my prefrences there is no such settings, Just wondering what Im doing wrong to get good sound. any help wouldbe nice.
